Featured Project: 1925 Steinway Model D
A complete restoration journey from neglected barn find to concert-ready masterpiece.
The Challenge
This magnificent Steinway Model D had spent decades in a Colorado barn, exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations and complete neglect. When the family decided to restore it as a memorial to their grandmother—a accomplished pianist who had once performed on this very instrument—they knew it would require extraordinary effort.
The Solution
Our restoration took over eight months. We completely rebuilt the action using period-correct parts, restored the soundboard after discovering a crack from moisture damage, and painstakingly French polished the cabinet to its original luster. The original brass hardware was carefully cleaned and replated.
The Result
Today, this instrument serves as the centerpiece of the family's home music room, producing a tone that has been described as "otherworldly." The client called it "bringing grandma's music back to life."
